Spirulina recipes

Spirulina sprinkles is delicious simply added to every dishes you cook as salads, pastas, etc…. You can mix it to juices, smoothies, to sauces.  It is better not to heat it to keep all its nutriments intact. So it is better to add it instead of cooking it.

SPIRULINA ORANGE JUICE

A fast and easy way to eat your spirulina amount and start the day full of energy is with orange juice.  You can add one to two tea spoons of spirulina sprinkles to your frech orange juice and  mix it.

 

SPIRULINA SPREAD

For all your sandwiches or apperitif toasts : mix 100 gr of green olives with 3 tea spoons of spirulina.  Spread it and enjoy.

SMOOTHIE APPLE-ORANGE, BANANA AND SPIRULINA

50 cl smoothie:

  • 1 banana
  • 1 to 2 orange(s) juice
  • 1 apple
  • 1 to 2 tea spoons of spirulina sprinkles
  • 1 cm ginger
  • little bit of water

Peel the apple, banana and ginger.  Pour fruit pieces in a bowl or a blender.  Fill orange juice and water to the fruit line. Mix. 

GREEN VEGETABLE PASTA AND SPIRULINA

  • 1 zucchini and 1 fennel
  • 1 garlic clove
  • 1 handfull of sunflower seeds
  • 3-4 tea spoons of spirulina
  • 3-4 spoons of  gomasio
  • olive oil, pepper and salt
  • 250 gr pasta

Wash the zucchini and the fennel, dice thoses.  Cook the vegetables in a pan with olive oil.  Keep vegetables crunchy.

Add garlic clove, salt and pepper to it.  Cook pasta in a separate pot.  In an other pan, cook sunflower seeds.

Serve pastas, then add a little bit of olive oil then the vegetables.  Sprinkle sunflower seeds, gomasio and spirulina last. Enjoy…

kichidi a la spiruline

Kichdi recipe with chinese cabbage and spirulina 

Ingredients for 4 persons: 

  • 1 chinese cabbage
  • 1 onion
  •  300 gr bazmati rice
  • 300 gr corral lentilles
  • 25 cl soja cream
  • soja salsa (tamari, shoyu)
  • salt, olive oil
  • spirulina sprinkles

Cut and peel the onion, wash and cut chinese cabbage in large slices.  Cook the lot in a large pan or in a wok with olive oil.  Add vegetal cream at the end of the cooking. 

To cook the kichdi,  poor riece, corral lentilles in a pot with 600 cl of water and a salt pinch.  

Serve both kichdi and vegtables then spangle spirulina sprinkles.  Add soy sauce as you lik

Who needs spirulina and why ?

Spirulina is the favourite food of people who cares about their health.  It’s the ally of athletic people and vegetarians because it brings a lot of proteins and almost all the nutriments you need to be healthy; but also for people  who desires to regain energy, people who have iron deficiency, …

Among its benefits, there is especially these ones:

  • Detox (thanks to its flavonoids  which allow the evacuation of harmfuls elements like heavy metals).
  • Improvement of allergic symptoms.
  • Strengthening immune defenses.
  • Anti-aging (it contains  de la phycocyanin and  beta-carotenes which are antioxidants).
  • Tonus (it fills you up with minerals which help to fight against fatigue, improve performances for athletics people, especially with iron).

We recommend you to eat 1 or 2 coffe spoon of spirulina  (3 to 5 gr) per day for an adult.  People who are used to eat spirulina and who desire to have more benefits, like sportsmen who wants to improve their performance can increase the daily dosis gradually up to 10 gr a day.

Spirulina is contraindicated in case of phenylketonuria.

What is spirulina?

A little bit of history…

Spirulina, it’s a micro-algae with exceptionnal virtues. Its scientific name is arthrospira platensis.  It grows naturally in salt and alkaline lakes in the geographical zone of the tropics in countries like Peru, Kenya,…  In some of them, it lives in symbiosis with pink flamingos.

It’s a very old form of life whose appereance on Earth goes back to 3,5 billions of years.  Thanks to its oxygen production, it allows life in our Planet.

Spirulina have been used from remote times, although it was discovered by scientifics in the 60,  it was already harvest and consumed for its amazing nutritionals benefits by Kanembu people from Chad (Africa), and ancient Aztecs (Mexico), just for few examples.

 

Why is it so exceptional ?

The composition of spirulina is unique in the world and it’s the more complete food for humans. It’s rich of an exceptional proteins concentration (60-70%), A et B vitamins, carbohydrates,  betacarotene, minerals and trace elements (calcium, magnesium, iron, zinc,…).  It  also contains phycocyanin, known as the best antioxidant.

Spirulina is often used in developing world to fight malnutrition. It needs less water than soy or meat production.  It contains more proteins, trace elements and nutrients that those foods.

The Mundial Health Organization named it aliment of 3rd millenium in 2017.

August’s Smoothie

Smoothie with blueberries, spinach & spirulina

For 2 glasses :

  • 2 peaches 
  • 150 gr of blueberries
  • 2 oranges
  • 1 handful of fresh spinach
  • 2 coffee spoons of spirulina

Wash the peaches, blueberries and spinachs.  Blend or mix them.  Press the oranges and add the juice in the blender / recipient.  Sprinkle with two coffee spoons of spirulina.  Mix / blend everything together and enjoy.
